Halifax, Nova Scotia – The National Coalition of Provincial and Territorial Advisory Councils (the Coalition) on the Status of Women held its annual meeting in St. John’s Newfoundland in the Fall of 2017.
Hosted by the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women Newfoundland and Labrador (the Advisory Council), this year’s meeting discussed current challenges in achieving women’s equality in our respective provinces and territories, while sharing resources and best practices.
Also announced was the upcoming retirement of Linda Ross, current Chair of the National Coalition of Provincial and Territorial Advisory Councils on the Status of Women, and President/CEO of the Advisory Council. Members expressed their heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Linda for her lifetime contributions and commitment to advancing women’s equality.
Holding a member vote, Michelle Kelly was elected as Chair of the Coalition, “I want to thank members for this privilege. In 2018, women across Canada continue to face challenges and this alliance of Councils across the country solidifies the need for provinces and territories to work collectively towards women’s equality.”
Ms. Kelly is the current chair of the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women and a partner with Cox & Palmer, practicing in commercial and insurance litigation with a focus on construction and energy matters. Michelle is bilingual in English and French.
The Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women is pleased to host the next Coalition meeting in Halifax in June 2018.
